The French Indian War (1754-1763) and The British Conquest of Canada

While the Global Seven Years War, went from 1756-1763; the French Indian War, was North America's theater of the conflict, and it started in 1754 in the Ohio Valley. Both the British had claimed the Ohio region for their colonial empires. The French had started to build fortifications in 1753 to strengthen their claim. The British sent General George Washington to the Ohio frontier to push back the French expansion. While War was not official declared, Britain began to reinforce its colonies, and dispatched Major-General Braddock and two regular regiments in 1775. The British then began attacking Fort Niagra, Fort Beausejour, the boarder of Nova Scotia, Fort Duquesne, and Fort Saint-Frederic.  When France heard of the British movements, they deployed six battalions under Baron Dieskau to Louisbourg. Early in the conflict the British faced a difficult task; after defeating Deiskau near Lake George; they would be defeated by small detachments of French troops and Iroquois warriors. In 1756 the Marquis de Montcalm arrived in Quebec with more French troops; and successfully captured Fort Oswego on lake Ontario; giving France total control of the Great Lakes.
