King William's War (1688-1697)

*Part of the Nine-Years War

As would be with other Wars between European Allies, future colonies in North America became front line battle grounds. This war was an an expansion of the War of the Grand Alliance; or the Nine-Years War. French Canadians and New England colonies divided to support their mother countries. The British, led by Sir William Phips in New England fought and captured Port Royal, in what would become Nova Scotia, but were unsuccessful at capturing Quebec; the heart of New France. The French Canadians were led by the Count de Frontenac, and successfully attacked Schenectady, Salmon Falls, and Casco Bay. However, they failed at their main objective of capturing Boston. The war ended with the Treaty of Rijswiijk (1697) (Encyclopedia Britannica)
